Companies must now fast-track digital transformation!
Until a few years ago pre-pandemic, digital transformation was a ‘nice-to-have’, with many of us working on various digital initiatives both in the workplace and at home. Today as we slowly come to terms with the fact that things are never probably going to be exactly the same, and in order to survive and for that matter thrive, business leaders are going to have to quickly realise that the digital transformation ‘want’ has become a ‘need’.

In fact, if they consider what has already been imposed by travel bans, restrictions on movement and gatherings, our kids not being able to go to school and the summer holidays around the corner, many of us will have already turned to digital tools for both business and pleasure. We have had to transform our homes by creating a workspace, if we didn’t already have one, and in some cases having to upgrade it. What we thought was good enough before, simply won’t suffice if this is going to be the norm going forward. Similarly, our business leaders have had to embrace this change for survival, and if they haven’t already been doing it, they now have their digital transformation programmes on fast-track!

I’m sure some of you work for a company that may have been resistant to allowing you to work from home before this pandemic set in, however now, all of us are working from home in some way. Some companies that weren’t ready or perhaps able to support remote work pre-pandemic, have had to implement it to survive. And I’m afraid, it looks like it is going to be the future of business. European commission stats tell us that just over a year ago, less than 6% of working persons aged 15-64, worked from home as an average for each member state - with not much variance between states.

If we think about this for a moment, and contemplate that under current conditions that number should now be at close to 100%, this change most of us have had to go through, has been cataclysmic. If your company lacked the infrastructure to support remote work before February last year, rest assured they are implementing it frantically now - remotely. Constructing a suitable workspace at home is going to become even more important now, than it has been over the last few months, so if you haven’t started thinking about how to improve your space, we will post a few tips shortly that will assist you.

Whilst some companies may go back to their rigid #WFH policies, we expect that most must now realise the benefits of embracing digital transformation and take the necessary steps to further insulate themselves from another such stumbling block. The technology is already here in fact it has been around for some time - just ask our friends at Amazon. With cloud computing, the move towards disruption at every opportunity and the need for innovation on everyone’s lips, our mindset is now moving towards delivering on our own creativity at every opportunity to improve our business and home lives.

Companies now prepared to embrace digital transformation have already given themselves a head-start as they will already have some experience gained over the past few weeks, perhaps already valuable infrastructure, and some procedures possibly as well. They may choose to encourage their staff to come to the office, but at least they can start to embrace the benefits digital transformation will bring as you are now able to #WFH.

Most importantly perhaps is that all of us will now have a good idea of what we need to make a good home-office space work, we will have engaged the creative side of our brains, and going forward whether we are in the office or #WFH, both us and our employers will reap the benefits.
